Dr. Sohani Amarasekera is a dedicated ophthalmologist specializing in surgical retina, known for her commitment to patient care and advancing the field of ophthalmology. Raised in Toronto, Canada, Dr. Amarasekera developed a passion for medicine early in life, which guided her academic and professional journey.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Pennsylvania, graduating magna cum laude. Following this, she pursued a Master of Public Health at the University of Cambridge before obtaining her Doctor of Medicine degree from New York Medical College. During her time in medical school, she was honored with induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society, recognizing her dedication to compassionate care. Dr. Amarasekera completed her ophthalmology residency and a Surgical Retina Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where she also served as Chief Resident.
Currently practicing at Vantage Eye Center, Dr. Amarasekera not only provides exceptional care to her patients but also mentors the next generation of ophthalmologists. Outside of her professional life, she enjoys traveling, staying active through working out, trying out new restaurants, and spending quality time with friends and family, all of which enrich her personal and professional experiences.
